Slezština je návrh spisovného západoslovanského jazyka,[2][3][4][5] přibuzného polštině, češtině, slovenštině nebo lužické srbštině, tedy slovanského a indoevropského. Dle polského sčítání lidu v roce 2011 se 509 000 lidí hlásilo ke slezštině jako rodnému jazyku.[1]
Za jazyk ji pokládá Knihovna Kongresu Spojených států, která slezštině přiřadila mezinárodní kód „szl“.
Nářečí
Nářečí jsou nebo byly slovanské dialekty na území Slezska. Dosud se jimi mluví v polském Horním Slezsku, na celém Těšínsku, Ostravsku a v části Opavska.
Abeceda
Neexistuje jedna slezská abeceda. Autorem jedné z kodifikací je Feliks Steuer, slezský básník a vědec. Jeho způsob psaní, vycházející převážně z polské abecedy, se používá ve Slezské Wikipedii. Slezská abeceda Steuera má 30 písmen:
