English: Usually, the height of a movie projection is always the height of the screen. The different formats give different width; but on the film, it is the width of the picture that is the same whatever the format (18 mm). This is performed by using different magnifications, i.e. different focal lengths, and masks to cut the top and bottom of the projected window. Additionally, the 2.35:1 format (Cinemascope) uses an anamorphosis (the width is doubled compared to the height).
Français : Habituellement, la hauteur d'une projection cinématographique est toujours la hauteur de l'écran. Les différents formats correspondent à différentes largeur de l'écran ; cependant, sur la pellicule c'est la largeur du photogramme qui est constante quelque soit le format (18 mm). Pour cela, on utilise différents grossissements, c'est-à-dire différentes distances focales, ainsi qu'un masque pour couper le haut et le bas de la fenêtre de projection. Dans le cas du format 2.35:1 (Cinémascope), on utilise une anamorphose (la largeur est doublée par rapport à la hauteur).
