Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde am 27. Oktober 1954 durch das Hessische Innenministerium genehmigt. Der Zinnenturm stellt die Starkenburg dar, eine der ehemals wichtigsten Befestigungen der Region. Die Blüte steht für die Blütenvielfalt im Frühling. Das Nagelspitzkreuz ist das Wappen des Klosters Lorsch. Der Löwe symbolisiert die Zugehörigkeit zu Hessen.
English: The arms were granted on October 27, 1954. They show in the first quarter the Starkenburg castle, one of the main castles in the district. The flower symbolises the wealth of flowers in the spring. The cross is taken from the former Imperial abbey of Lorsch. The lion in the fourth quarter is the lion of Hesse, to which the district belongs.
