(January 27, 1967) Astronauts- Virgil “Gus” Grissom, Edward White and Roger Chaffee
On January 27, 1967 a fire swept through the cabin during a launch rehearsal killing astronauts Virgil “Gus” Girssom, Edward White and Roger Chaffee. The name Apollo 1 was given to the mission in the spring of 1967 in memory of the astronauts who lost their lives.
