Palma z Tromsø[editovat zdroj]

Sorry for writing in English, but I don't know Czech. I see H. persicum is showed as synonymous with the Tromsø Palm (H. laciniatum). This need not be correct, as there are certain facts that most likely makes these plants different from each other.

  • First of all, the Tromsø Palm was brought to Norway from abroad about a hundred years ago. Thus it is not an indigenous plant like the H. persicum.
  • Second, the Latin name is heavily disputed. It was brought to Norway under the name H. asperum. However botanists agree that this name must be a mistake. In books from around 1800 it went under the name H. panaces, but is in more recent publications called H. laciniatum - allthough for vague reasons. However in the last publication of the Norwegian Standard Flora (Lids flora) it is suggested that it should be called H. tromsoensis. Many other names have also been suggested as synonymes, including H. persicum. I've actually found eight(!) other synonymes, and listed them at the bottom of the Norwegian discussion about the Tromsø Palm.
  • Third, the habitat of the Tromsø Palm only extends along the coastline from sparse fields in the northerenmost Norwegian region of Finnmark, extending south trough its main habitat in the region of Troms, but no further south than to Northeren Trøndelag (south of Nordland) in Norway. From Northeren Trøndelag and southwards the Giant Hogweed (H. mantegazzianum - Bolševník velkolepý) takes over for the Tromsø Palm. As shown by your map, H. persicum stretches to quite a large part of Scandinavia, thus strongly suggesting that it cannot be the same plant as the Tromsø Palm. All the same, according to botanists, H. persicum is stated as a "best candidate" for being the Tromsø Palm other than H. laciniatum - but most likely the Tromsø Palm is a hybrid between H. persicum and other closely related plants.

Hope this is taken into consideration in further edits of the article. --KEBman 23:17, 9. 7. 2006 (UTC)
