English: General Kitchener and the Anglo-egyptian Nile Campaign, 1898
A group of Hadendowah Sudanese bearing weapons at Berber. An Egyptian military policeman stands in the foreground. Mahdi forces evacuated Berber after their defeat at Abu Hamed. Kitchener's forces occupied the town on August 31 1897. These men may have been left behind by the Mahdi.
