PopisCup of coffee for the wounded (4688586476).jpg
English: First Aid Post, Western Front, during World War I. This photograph, by an unidentified photographer, shows a member of the Army Medical Corps handing a cup of coffee to a wounded soldier. The walking wounded, like this soldier, made their own way to the Aid Posts where they were given First Aid and sent on to the Casualty Clearing Stations. The label on the wounded man's button shows what treatment he has received.
As with all injuries, one of the main problems for the Medical Corps was to reduce the onset of shock. While modern First Aid avoids the use of hot drinks, they must have been very welcome for men in this situation and many of the photographs of Aid Posts show hot drinks or food being given to the wounded.
