iNaturalist je projekt občanské vědy a sociální síť pro přírodovědce, dobrovolníky a biology založená na sdílení pozorování po celém světě. Pozorování je možné vkládat prostřednictvím webového formuláře nebo mobilní aplikace [1][2] Pozorování slouží jako cenná otevřená data pro řadu výzkumných projektů, muzeí, botanických zahrad, parků a dalších organizací.[3][4] .[5] Od začátku uživatelé přispěli již více jak jedním milionem pozorování.[6]
Historie
iNaturalist.org byl založen v roce 2008 jako závěrečná magisterská práce studentů Nate Agrin, Jessica Kline, a Ken-ichi Ueda z Kalifornské univerzity v Berkeley Nate Agrin a Ken-ichi Ueda pokračovali v budování stránky s webovým vývojářem Seanem McGregorem. V roce 2011 začal Ueda spolupracovat se Scottem Loariem, výzkumníkem na Stanfordské univerzitě a vyučujícím na Kalifornské univerzitě v Berkeley . Ueda a Loarie v současnosti iNaturalist.org společně řídí. 24. dubna 2014 byl iNaturalist.org sloučen se stránkami Kalifornské akademie věd [7] V roce 2014 iNaturalist oslavil milionté pozorování.
Zapojení
iNaturalist je založen na sběru dat pomocí crowdsourcingu. Uživatelé iNaturalistu mohou vkládat pozorování ve formě fotografií, zvukových nahrávek či hlášení. Observations are either "casual" or "research" grade, and research grade observations are incorporated into online databases to be utilizable for scientists.[4] iNaturalist is the preferred application for crowd-sourced biodiversity data in Mexico.[8]
