  • Scope and content: Paterson, New Jersey - Textiles. Jackson Winding and Warping Company. Picture of a Charles B. Johnson Sizing Machine. This is the latest High Speed Sizing Machine and is known as a "Seven Can Type." The cloth goes through this machine at the rate of 80 yards a minute and can do a 1,200 yard warp in about 45 minutes. This estimate of time includes the tying up and removing of the warp. These sizing machines come with a different number of cans. The "Five Can Type" can do about 35 yards a minute and completes the warp in approximately an hour. The "Three and Two Can Types" do about 22 yards a minute and complete a warp is about 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 hours. Regardless of the number of cans involved in a particular machine, the sizing requires 2 operators on the machine in use.
