  • Scope and content: Full caption reads as follows: Newberry County, South Carolina. Flock of 2 and 3 year old hens used as breeders. A flock of 300 to 400 kept for this purpose. This flock has been culled and brood tested since the hens were pullets. J. C. Epting, Jr., Little Mountain, South Carolina. Mr. Epting was the first to produce poultry commercially in his community. This poultry work was begun in cooperation with the Clemson College Extension Service in 1925. There are now fully 20,000 commercial hens kept within a radius of a few miles of his farm.
